Tal Cohen’s unique piano style owes its roots to the Jewish folk songs and classical music he played in his formative years growing up in Gedera, Israel. Cohen moved to Perth, Australia at the age of 16. He later continued his music studies at the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, where he completed a Bachelor degree, Honours and Masters degree in Jazz Performance
One of the highlights of Tal’s career occurred in 2014 when he received a call from Grammy Award-winning trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard to play a show with his Quintet at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. Blanchard also invited him to perform with the “Terence Blanchard Quintet” at the 2014 New Orleans Jazz Festival. Later that year, Cohen appeared at the 2014 Perth Jazz Festival alongside acclaimed New York saxophonist Greg Osby. In 2014 Tal was also named the grand prize winner of the Barry Harris National Jazz Piano Competition.In July, Cohen was named the winner of the exclusive Australian Freedman Fellowship Award. The nomination for this award culminated in a final performance at the Sydney Opera House.

FELIPE PERFORMED REGULARLY WITH TRUMPET MASTER ARTURO SANDOVAL FROM 2001 TO 2009 PARTICIPATING IN MAJOR JAZZ FESTIVALS IN UNITED STATES AND EUROPE, INCLUDING JVC, PLAYBOY, NEWPORT, HEINEKEN JAZZ, RED SEA, AND VENUES SUCH AS BLUE NOTE, IRIDIUM, JAZZ STANDARD, YOSHI’S, DIZZY’S CLUB COCA COLA, AND MORE.
HE ALSO HAVE BEEN TWO TIMES GRAMMY NOMINATED WITH HIS WORK ON “PASEO” BY GONZALO RUBALCABA AND THE NEW CUBAN QUARTET, AND ALSO ON THE ALBUM “CODES” BY IGNACIO BERROA, BOTH ALBUMS RELEASED BY BLUE NOTE RECORDS.
