6 French and Italian artists illustrate the Dotoli Poetry: Damiani, Viti, Chapuis, Medard, Boisseau, Cepeda
This opening will take place on March 1, 8:00 to 11:00 P.M., at the Damien B. Contemporary Art Center, 282 NW 36th Street, in Miami new Art District, just one block South of the Design District. The Consuls of France and Italy will be in attendance, along with Giovanni Dotoli and four of the exhibited artists: Count Vincenzo Viti, who is coming from Milan, Ms. Dominique Medard, arriving from Paris, Mr. Gustavo Cepeda, from Bogota, and Mr. Bernard Boisseau, a leading French painter living in Miami. The exhibition is comprised of the works of 6 painters who are among the dozen having illustrated the poetry work of Giovanni Dotoli: the Italians Viti and Michele Damiani; the French Medard, Bernard Chapuis, and Bernard Boisseau; and the Colombian Gustavo Cepeda.
Giovanni Dotoli is a scholar of great distinction and international reputation whose research covers French and Italian literature from the Renaissance until today.He teaches at the University of Bari,Italy, and currently at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris, and has lectured all over the world. He is the author of more than a dozen books, and has edited or co-edited about 30 other ones. Giovanni Dotoli has published more than 120 articles and book chapters on Renaissance literature and culture, the Classicism, popular culture in the French 17th and 18th century, French 19th century poets such as Baudelaire — his forthcoming book is entitled Le Chagrin de Baudelaire –, Rimbaud, etc., and French 20th century writers. Giovanni Dotoli has been Vice President of the University of Bari, among numerous appointments. He has been awarded by the French Government the highest recognitions: « Officier dans la Legion d’Honneur » and « Commandeur dans l’Ordre des Palmesc Academiques ». In 2000, he received the prestigious « Grand Prix de l’Academie Francaise ».
