Trade Representatives from Dominican Republic and Guatemala to speak at Hollywood International Trade Conference

October 18-19, 2007

HOLLYWOOD, FL – The Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA) is now fully ratified with the final Central American country of Costa Rica passing a referendum approving the agreement earlier this week. To build on this historic agreement, trade officials from Guatemala and the Dominican Republic will talk about export and investment opportunities at Hollywood’s 1st Annual International Conference, ‘Making the Global Connection’, to be held October 18 and 19 at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa located at 3555 South Ocean Drive in Hollywood.

The International Conference kicks off on the evening of October 18 from 6:00 p.m-8:00 p.m. with early registration and a welcome reception. Registration resumes at 7:30 a.m. on October 19, followed by an opening session at 8:30 a.m. DR-CAFTA presentations will be given as follows:

9:00 a.m.

Franklin Lithgow, Manager
Dominican Republic Export and Investment Center
Dominican Republic

10:00 a.m.

Jacobo Rey Sigfrido, Vice Minister of Investments
Guatemala

There will also be a series of panel discussions on international trade topics, and an awards luncheon. The DR-CAFTA is the largest free trade agreement passed by Congress in over a decade.

This agreement between the U.S. , Dominican Republic , El Salvador , Guatemala , Honduras , Nicaragua and Costa Rica eliminates 80% of tariffs on U.S. goods exported to the region.
